Some of you may have noticed that my little summary of "first jazz recording" a few days ago:
ODJB's first recording date: January 31, 1917 (Columbia - not issued)
ODJB's recording date for first issued jazz recording: February 26, 1917
ODJB's first issued record: March 7, 1917.
...was based on Rust's fifth edition of "Jazz Records". According to the sixth (digital) edition
http://www.mainspringpress.com/ODJB.pdf
...the January 24 (or 30 or 31) studio session for Columbia probably never existed. In that case it's the May 31 date that is correct for "Darktown Strutters' Ball" and "Indiana" (Columbia A-2297).
