[78-L] Record Noises - Identify and Understand Cause

I've had little success fixing these spots digitally (ClickRepair, Sound
Forge, iZotope RX) -- if it's bad, there doesn't seem to be much musical
content there to reveal. Removing the noise between the harmonics and
fundamentals in RX can sound okay - but the level dips noticeably.

My experience is that blasting usually looks like jaggedness added to the
waveform. I use the smoothing tool in Sound Forge to reduce it. It can be
very tedious, though, since Sound Forge doesn't have any way of
automatically applying the tool to those areas where blasting has occurred.
You have to do this by hand, which involves a lot of close listening and
manual selecting.
