Is this a good example of what you mean ?:

147708 - 12.17.1928 A Gay Caballero - Vernon Dalhart
147709 - 12.17.1928 The Mule Song - Vernon Dalhart

issued on:

Harmony 812 H (but as "Mack Allen")
Velvet Tone 1812 V
Diva 2812 G

and is it just a co-incidence that:

147791 - 1.16.1929 - Sippin' Cider - Vernon Dalhart
147792 - 1.16.1929 - The Mule Song - Vernon Dalhart

has the catalogue # Columbia 1712D ?

The lowest Velvet Tone #'s I can find are:

1005 V Manhattan Dance Makers - Are You Sorry
1005 V The Southern Serenaders - Alone At Last
&
1006 V - Arthur Fields: Smile All The While/I'mYour Pal
