Cliff

The radio club I belong to, The New Jersey Antique Radio Club, has one
in it's museum. I never saw one before myself. It probably belongs to
our resident 45 expert, Phil Vourtis.

Here's a link to our museum:

> This is a sample disc, an Introduction to the Talking Books Program provided by the Library of Congress. Alexander Scoursby confirmed what everyone here has said. This was to be played on a loaner machine from the Institute for the Blind. Both sides are identical except for the playback speed. There are several 2-5 minute excerpts from different books and articles narrated by different people. He said he started narrating talking books in 1937 and has been doing it for 30 years, so this one (I conclude) must be from 1967 or so. The side I recorded has about 1 1/4 inch of groove and provides almost 44 minutes of playback at 8 1/3 rpm.

> Just came across a really weird record.? The? record is microgroove, vinyl, 10 inch diameter, with paper labels on each
> side.??The label on one side is in braille, the label on the other is printed.? According to the printed label, the braille side
> plays at 16 2/3 rpm and the?printed label side plays at 8 1/3 rpm.? It is a Library of Congress Talking Book with Alexander
> Scourby's narration 'INTRODUCTION TO TALKING BOOKS' on the slow side and something else on the braille side.
