Long time lurker in Dallas here.
Most people around here saw heavy rains (and some got some decent hail), but not more than more that.

The good thing about tornados (if you want to put it that way) is that they are generally quite localized and short-lived.
A block of homes gets destroyed, but two blocks away, nothing is touched.
Not like a hurricane or earthquake.
 
Sure made for some dramatic video, though - those TV helicopter pilots must be adrenaline junkies with nerves of steel.
