I don't know if the cross-Canada route is gone, but the Toronto-Buffalo leg is still up where you can pick up the Lake Shore Limited to Chicago. PC

Not quite true...although I am not sure if I can still travel to
Chicago by train! I made a fair number of train trips from Oshawa
to visit my brother in Milwaukee, Wisc., USA using a VIA/Amtrak
Toronto-Chicago express and then Chicago-Milwaukee trains.
I beleive the Toronto-Chicago leg has been removed...?!

Rather discouraging if that is true...I have many happy memories
of going to Chicago by train to attend the Chicago Blues Festival...?!
The train, unlike Greyhound, at least had a "bar car," so you
could have two or three beers as you went to Chicago...!
