Sorry I don't have a decent scan but yes, the numbers are miniscule and deeply engraved. Just about anyone in the business in 1947 would have recognized the source of these things.

From: david.diehl at hensteeth.com> Counterfeiting was a big problem at that time, primarily with indie race records.> In 1948 Savoy even took out ads in the trades warning dealers and distributors.> But these Victor discs would have been easy to trace once detected; why go to> the trouble of engraving the issue numbers in such a distinctive, non-Victorian manner?> DJDI am at a disadvantage by not having a copy or a photo of the disc inorder to see what the "distinctive, non-Victorian" engraved numberlooked like. Do they look obviously like Sonora numbers that would makethem easy to trace back to Sonora once detected? As I said, since thesewere seasonal records, they would disappear from the market in a naturalfashion before the damage had been detected.Mike Biel mbiel at mbiel.com_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l
