True, but the discussion here is about *reversed* audio (i.e. playing
backwards) not inverted (which is simply a phase change).
Personally, I am in agreement with David Burnham. Once in the digital
domain, you can do just about anything you like without destroying the
integrity of the file.
I'm also aware of the problems associated with reversing audio in the
analogue domain, but sometimes it can still be an extremely useful
technique and I've used it with no audibly perceptible degradation.
Generally speaking, the source material has far greater problems than
anything likely to be introduced by playing backwards!
