And I heard he had a wacky sense of humour.I spoke to him once or twice when he was alive and well
in Salt Lake City.A trombonist friend of mine worked with him once and spoke of his rather "warped"
sense of humour.And to think Frank DeVol was Happy Kyne on Mary Hartman,Martman.

Caught Alvino Ray and His Band at the Strand Theatre in NYC.(Broadway and 
47th street)  Musta been about 1946. Complete with the King Sisters
Alvino out front with that (whaddayacallit) Hawaiian guitar.(The one that 
lies flat)  Good band..good charts.
He opened with "The Strip Polka"  Hot stuff.
Next number "The Major and The Minor"
I can still see the band and Alvino in my mind's eye.
A tall man with a fairly grave look.
