Next Monday (March 8th) TCM will be airing the new documentary “The Brothers Warner” produced and directed by Harry Warner’s granddaughter. The 90-minute film is a loving tribute to her grandfather and some of his brothers. Her granduncle, Jack, (the best known of the four brothers) comes through as an egotist. The film will be released the next day on DVD by Warner Home Video. (It appears the film was shown in 2008 on PBS as part of the American Masters Series but I don’t remember seeing it then.
I’ve seen an advance screener and it’s a wonderful film. There’s a fascinating section on the introduction of sound films and the Vitaphone process too. Again, the film concentrates on the brothers themselves and there’s a good amount of archival footage as well as some interesting interviews.

I love this clip of interviews on the street which start the film: http://tinyurl.com/yhqt63b
