They're also hardly "full range recordings"..they're dubs, done under ARC's
usual lousy conditions.
Columbia didn't quite have it together when they printed the 1940 catalog.
There are two Bessie Smith albums, C-8 and C-31. "Smith, Bessie" directs you to
look for "Bessie Smith Album" (that's C-8) and it's in the main body where
Masterworks and Mantovani also appear. C-31 is listed only in the numerical
albums at the end, not anywhere else in the book, and no titles are shown. Red
label Columbias are in the small "popular" section and there's no Bessie and no
Smith (except Kate).

> This is an interesting point you bring up about the Full Range Recording labels. Wheeler's book makes mention of 3 different label types used in one collector's album. One was with the Full Range Recording label and the other two without but with different patent info on them. Since you have Note the Notes, it would be Figures VIII.B.1 and VIII.B.2.

Though, I have a feeling that ARC considered Columbia an afterthought by this point (for popular stuff anyway), and spent more time and money on Brunswick & Vocalion.
