If one does get a parcel with peanuts, a fine mist of water will dissipate
the static charge, making them easy to deal with. An alternate method of
using the little beasties is to put them in plastic bags and seal the bags
shut.
Packing peanuts can also be the source of great fun. Some of them are very
biodegradable, being made of corn, I believe. If water touches them, they
start to dissolve. Keep a few handy and demonstrate to unsuspecting
observers that the best way to get rid of packing peanuts is to eat them.
If they had cheese flavor, they'd be Cheetos 8-)

One MAJOR comment! PLEASE delete "packing peanuts" and
replace it with "'balls' of crumpled newspaper!!" Styrofoam
"packing peanuts" build up charges of static electricity...and then
adhere to not only the 78's but to everything else in sight! Further,
for those of us who are owned by cats, said cats will try to "kill"
EVERY "peanut" they encounter...littering the area with the
shredded remains, which still hold static charges and are all but
impossible to sweep up...!
Simply take a newspaper...and crumple each double page into
a ball about 2" or so in diameter...!
