Not necessarily! A record with a hole in it might be a bit of a problem, but a 
diamond is .. yeah, I'm gonna say it..  no, I'll avoid that cliche. Suffice to 
say that because the disc wasn't warped, the two halves fitted perfectly 
together and I've been handling broken records since I was breaking 'em myself 
60 years ago. The split was no worse than two deep scratches and I played it at 
78.

True..but if this isn't a record that turns up frequently (and I don't think it 
is) and it was worth piecing together just to audition and it DID happen to 
play well, then why not? Note that this wasn't for a CD issue. If I were doing 
a Homer and Jethro (which would be if the CD industry ever came back into 
existence, a dubious premise at the moment) I'd be searching among my various 
nefarious sources for a better copy. It also helped that this disc was cut at a 
very high volume and that my method of transfer involves a process that 
eliminates out-of-phase disturbances.
