Often times, the only way I find certain albums in stereo is to go through 
radio station libraries. Stereo DID cost a buck more, and if you read through 
old Hi Fi magazines of the time as I'm doing these days, you'll notice that the 
reviewers listened carefully to both versions of everything and often didn't 
see the need for stereo except for large scale classical works and Broadway 
shows. Plus the ping pong stuff.

At least Tom Lehrer admitted it when he charged you an extra buck for a live 
version, two extra bucks for live AND stereo..
