With proper spelling in hand, I found this on the Wikipedia page for Doodles
Weaver:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doodles_Weaver
"In 1946, Weaver signed on as a member of Spike Jones
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_Jones> 's City Slickers band. Weaver
was heard on Jones's 1947-49 radio shows, where he introduced his comedic
Professor Feetlebaum (which Weaver sometimes spelled as Feitlebaum),[1]
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doodles_Weaver> a character who spoke in
Spoonerisms <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoonerism> . "
So there we have the origin of the funny name from Doodles, and the real
winner of the race(s) was then the nutty professor and maybe not even a
horse. OK, that was funny in 1949.
Thanks for playing the Funny Record Trivia Game on 78-L.

Nah, I think they just thought it was a funny name. I wonder if Ted Hering
has any inside info on it?
