It really depends on how you define "height" of someone's career. Some of the people I'm naming hadn't recorded for a few years at the time of their deaths,
and some 19th century opera stars were already past the prime of their careers when they were first comitted to wax. But anyway:
Roger Harding (1901)
Frank Banta Sr. (1903)
Dan Leno (1904)
Francesco Tamagno (1905)
Will F. Denny (1908)
George Walker (1911)
Harry Fragson (1913)
George W. Johnson (1914)
Lillian Nordica (1914)
Pol Plançon (1914)
Len Spencer (1914)
Dave Montgomery (1917)
Nat M. Wills (1917)
William F. Hooley (1918)
James R. Europe (1919)
Cal Stewart (1919)
George Gaskin (1920)
Ada Jones (1922)
Bert Savoy (1923)
Reed Miller (1923)
Edna Hicks (1925)
Paul Biese (1925)
Bert Ralton (1927)
Nora Bayes (1928)
Joe T. Schenck (1930)
The following artists also died during the 78 era (sometimes even before electrical recording), although it had been some time since they had made any records:
Ada Rehan (1916)
Adelina Patti (1919)
Ralph C. Herz (1921)
Bob Roberts (1930)
Gene Greene (1930)
George MacFarlane (1932)
Arthur Collins (1933)
John Yorke Atlee (1933; often misreported as 1910)
Edward M. Favor (1936)
Grace Kerns (1936)
Byron Harlan (1936)
Dan W. Quinn (1938)
Eddie Morton (1938)
Is this what you're looking for? Too little, too much?
