Consider too that whatever label put out the reissue may have jacked around with the remastering job before they issued it.  I think of Richard Caniell's Immortal Performances Recorded Music Society and the problems he had with his transfers of old MET Opera and Toscanini/NBC Symphony broadcasts being tampered with by Naxos and Guild Music... which is why Caniell now produces his own CDs of his transfers, sold through his website.  The (unnamed) esteemed transfer engineer you refer to may not have had anything whatsoever to do with the orchestra-under-water filtering. I have no doubt Lennick has similar horror stories to tell--and in fact has told 'em in the past!
