I just had an email exchange with Mike Thomas whose website lists records on the British Phoenix label:http://mgthomas.co.uk/Records/LabelPages/Phoenix.htm. First, he confirmed that the web page has a typo and the mx for Old Comrades March on Phoenix 02 is X95. The web page shows X85 and, as of 15:30 today, has not been corrected. Second, Mike is of the opinion that X95 is a master of British origin, which seems plausible considering that the reverse of Col A1608 is a Stanley Kirkby recording dating from 1914. Kirkby was an English singer and the master was issued on Oxfordhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvxrOujOOuwand on a British Regalhttp://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/g6801Art ZimmermanDate: Wed, 10 Aug 2016 20:29:44 +0200From: Kristjan Saag <saag at telia.com.invalid>Subject: Re: [78-L] Columbia A1608 - Old Comrades MarchTo: 78-L Mail List <78-l at klickitat.

ords/LabelPages/Phoenix.htmbeing re-released in the 1910's on British Columbia's subsidiary label Phoenix, who also used the X-prefix as control number covering the original Columbia mx numbers, like the 00095-1 for "Old Comrades".Seems like the 1914 US reissue, instead of using Columbia's original 00095 mx number, used the Phoenix control number as mx number. (The Phoenix label numbers had an O-prefix).Anyway, it's pretty sure that "Old Comrades" was an original US recording on Columbia - there are lot of other US recordings listed here with similar mx-numbers:http://www.musikt
iteldb.de/Interpreten/1737.htmlall of the from 1900-1904.Question is if the recording was is sued on Columbia or some other label before the reissue in 1914.KristjanOn 2016-08-09 21:33, zimrec at juno.com wrote:> Having turned up a copy of Columbia A1608, I am curious to know the > source of the master of Old Comrades March.
