Was this the same Arthur Lange, song composer? The one on credits of "Hot
Lips"? Another by The Peerless Quartet, "Oh you, bundle of joy"...?

I turned up two 78s on the Co-Art label, based in Hollywood. They are
apparently from a larger set of discs of a composition titled Oriental
Translations by the Vaughan Ensemble. The sides of the discs have mx
numbers on labels but the discs have no individual catalog numbers. Each
side has a movement from the composition with labels listing full
personnel. It appears that the Co-Art recordings may be those reissued on
Cambria CD 1041 which contains a composition listed as Oriental
Translations for Denishawn - The Vaughan Ensemble conducted by the Composer
(1940). I won't bother listing full details of the Co-Art discs here, but
wonder if anyone has discs that I lack. Also, the labels of the 78s say
Recorded by Arthur Lange. Would that be the same Lange who recorded a
large number of titles on Cameo in the 1920s? ACA 133 - V. Hindu TempleACA
134 - VI. Hindu NautchACA 135 - II. Singhalese Anklet DanceACA 136 - IV.

I remember a wonderful version of "You Are My Sunshine," with LaRosa vocal.
Slowed down arrangement that knocked my socks off many years ago. If anyone
can send me an mp3, I'd love to hear it again.

I've had at least one other CoArt disc with Arthur Lange credited.

I'm not doubting your memory, Dennis, but I have searched many data bases
and can find no mention of such a record. I searched Amazon, ebay, iTunes,
youtube, internet archive, and more. Maybe someone can give a clue to
where it might have been recorded. The closest I came up with is YOU ARE
THE SUNSHINE OF MY LIFE by Julius. Could that be it?

Yes, this was the same Lange who was a recording director at Cameo, and who
later went to Hollywood and was M-G-M's first musical director; Ray
Heindorf was his protege. He owned Co-Art.

When I saved a scan of ACA-136 (in 2014), the seller said it was a 3 record
set.
With the exception of the Oriental set, all labels I've seen are in a 5000
series.
I have several scans, in range 5018-5058.
Labels regularly mention Lange.
The lowest mx is ACA-148 on 5018; highest mx CA-225 on 5058.
A seller gave 1946 as date for 5041.
5049-5051 (Cesar Franck, Trio) were in Album 101 (mentioned on label);
5058-5061 in 103.

Evidently Oriental Transl. is an early issue. It would be interesting to =
have confirmation that this set was prewar.
