I've compiled a partial list of "big band tenor sax players". These are
players who arrived on the scene as big band players, without a previous
grounding in small group jazz:

George Auld
Charlie Barnet

Tex Beneke

George Berg

Nick Caiazza

Vince Carbone

Pat Davis

Dick Clark

Eddie Clausen

Corky Corcoran

Al Klink

Don Lodice
Saxie Mansfield

Dave Matthews

Vido Musso

Hammond Russum

Tony Zimmers

Phil Zolkind

I've included Charlie Barnet because although he started off leading a
big band it wasn't a swing unit.

I've excluded the following on the grounds that they made jazz
recordings before taking up the cudgels of big band playing:

Bud Freeman

Eddie Miller

Babe Russin

I have also excluded Peanuts Hucko because his main instrument was the
clarinet.
