The  very first 78rpm collectors collected early recordings of the great
opera singers.
As early as the 1930s, HMV added an 'Historic' section to their catalogue to
cater to these collectors.

Now, it seems, we are a dying breed.
Let me know if YOU collect operatic 78s, like me.

Earl Okin.

Thank you, Randy! I'm positive that's what it was, including the odd credit to "Tit-Willow" as vocalist.

Don't know if any of these clips are available in your country; it's the
same on all of them: Sammy Davis Jr and his band on "Frankly Jazz" in
the 1960's, Sammy playing vibes. Can anyone identify the tune?

Don't know the tune but I was surprised to hear the pianist quote Ann
Ronnel's "Rain On the Roof" during his solo...and Sammy picks up on it right
away!

I also have this record, no. 1398 of my collection, acquired April 12th,
1999:

Masterpiece 8550 (from set A13) MIKADO (Gilbert, Sullivan) green label
TENOR & ORCH "A wandering minstrel I" (mx, no. MM-953-A 11 S)
SOPRAN, BARITONE & ORCH "The Sun Whose Rays" & "Tit Willow" (mx no MM-954-A
12 S)

As per matrix numbers... seems not to be any of Victor products...?
It's worth to check Abrams/Settlemier databases or the 78 online
discography to see if those MM-953 and 954 matrixes are listed there...
(not at hand now).

Best regards,

Inigo Cubillo
