I didn't say it WAS demeaning, I said perhaps he FELT it was demeaning.

But St Louis is a French saint, so the correct pronunciation would be
with a silent S. 

I don't see why that would be demeaning. I can see that a wrong
pronunciation such as "Lewis" might be.
