You may be able to set your mail program to make carriage returns at a set
number of characters.  80 is the usual number I believe.

Why to have a readable message one has to cut lines manually to a given
length, because if you write straight, the effect is like the NOTEPAD plain
text processor when you unclick the CUT LINES command; the lines are so long
that you have to pan along the screen to be able to read. 

Just compare my former messages. The second one, surnamed BETTER READING,
has been written by manual cutting the length of lines to 72 characters or
so.
