Absolutely incorrect as you have already seen. If you consider the rock era
as starting in 1955, below is a summary of other big band hits from a quick
scan of 1955-1969 Top Ten charts.
I have subjectively omitted what I consider orchestras, rather than bands.
You are free to disagree.
I omitted...
Nelson Riddle
Percy Faith
Mitch Miller
Les Baxter
Frank Pourcel
Billy Vaughn
Reg Owen
Bert Kaempfert
David Rose
Kai Winding
Paul Mauriat
Hugo Montenegro

Then there is also the distinction of what is "big".
Here's the list, (including those already mentioned), you decide if they are
big enough.
1955
HONEY BABE - Art Mooney
NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS - Art Mooney

1957
SO RARE - Jimmy Dorsey

1958
PATRICIA - Perez Prado
TEA FOR TWO CHA CHA - Warren Covington & T. Dorsey Band

1959
PETITE FLEUR - Chris Barber's Jazz Band
PETER GUNN - Ray Anthony

1961
CALCUTTA - Lawrence Welk

1962
MIDNIGHT IN MOSCOW - Kenny Ball & his Jazzmen
THE LONELY BULL - Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass

1965
A TASTE OF HONEY = Herb Alpert

If you consider the rock era as starting in 1950, of course, a lot more
bands come into play, such as...
Guy Lombardo
Sammy Kaye
Buddy Morrow
Sauter-Finnegan
Ralph Flanagan
Vaughn Monroe
Freddy Martin
Lionel Hampton
Russ Morgan
Eddy Howard
Gene Krupa
Spike Jones
Richard Maltby
etc. etc.
