[78-L] Problem with very high energy incorporated into remastered 78s

Groung is quite lovely!
Before DSP it was common for engineers to 'compensate' for severe filtering of highs by boosting the signal in the 1-3khz range. The results were often dreadful, yielding blaring trumpets, sopranos and clarinets. I bought my first equalizer in order to undo some of the worst excesses. Sounds like there's a peak around 1800-2000 hz so if you try re-EQing you might get something more listenable, though you'll probably hear more DSP and MP3 artifacts along with the surface noise and studio ambience.

Here you go. These three happen to be acoustic, but there is the same problem with electrical recordings.Thanks./stevehttp://thewire.co.uk/audio/tracks/stream-tracks-from-to-what-strange-place_the-music-of-the-ottoman-american-diaspora_1916-1?SELECT%20*%20%20FROM%20request_redirecthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GizgyxGSrFshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOMRknxvZO8&list=PLa4MjRLLBBZgaf3y6XoaSZhKV846RWiOwOn 2/3/2014 4:24 PM, Royal Pemberton wrote:> Post some audio examples, please....---------- Original Message ----------On Mon, Feb 3, 2014 at 9:15 PM, Steve Shapiro wrote:I have occasionally found myself listening to some sound files of remastered 78s - mp3s and CDs - that seem to have incorporated some sort of very high energy that is painful to my ears. I presume sound of the energy gets absorbed in the playing room.Another friend (Friend #2) has started using a program called iZotope RX - RX3 which produces very nice sound, but my ears can't tolerate the energy.A third friend with sound experience, but not with remastering 78s, (Friend #3) suggests that this problem arises from remastering programs' compression of sound. I hardly know anything about sound compression or sound compression issues, but I do know that I listen to most recordings comfortably, unremarkably, and with no issues, while some remastered 78s are intolerable to my ears. Can anyone explain what is going on and offer any advice and guidance I can pass on to Friends #1 and #2?Thanks./steve____________________________________________________________Odd Carb-Hormone Trick1 EASY tip to increase fat-burning, lower blood sugar & decrease fat storagehttp://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/52f015be445915ba6d36st02duc_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l
