A couple of articles from BILLBOARD, nothing
about the album, so many have been recorded
following the success of the club appearance.
Anyone know how Audio Archive transitioned to
Heritage ??? (for example, simply a label name
change, or sold to a new company ?????)
Best wishes, Thomas.

BARD FOR CLUB VIA CARRADINE
NEW YORK, Jan 26 --
John Carradine will take his
long-hair readings into the
Vanguard starting Februray
8. Carradine will be on the
bill with Martha Kitt and a
male comic.
The idea is based on the
"Don Juan in Hell" gimmick,
tho in Carradine's case he'll
work as a single, doing
Shakespeare and similar
readings. He'll be in for four
weeks with options, the lat-
ter calling for successive in-
creases in salary if the gim-
mick does business.
  Max Gordon, Vanguard's
prop. said readings were not
new to the room. When it
was a Village hangout for
intellectuals, many budding
poets and writers gave read-
ings. In those days, how-
ever, the pay-off was a cup
of cofee or a Coke. The pay-
off today can rise to a $1000.

CAFES SEEKING LEGIT ACTORS
NEW YORK, April 5 - The use
of legit actors in cafes, which was
started by Max Gordon at his
Village with the booking of John
Carradine some weeks ago, will
continue, thereby opening a new
market for legit actors in a field
strange to them.
Canada Lee is due to follow
Albert Dekker, who opened a
week ago on a two-week basis.
Lee will do extracts from shows
he's been in, including "Othello"
and "Native Son." Following Lee
it is possible that Basil Rathbone
may come in tho so far the money
is the chief obstacle.
  In the meantime, however, Car-
radine, who broke in his readings
here for $500 a week, is working
clubs out of town and getting
$1250 and upwards.

Billboard Apr 24, 1954
...The dour-faced John Carradine is now
doing his readings at the Black
Orchid, Chicago.

None of the scant information out here refutes this, even though it
leaves one as uneasy as if we used the label date on any other disk.
