I had "Old Buttermilk Sky" at one time.It was a record that meant nothing to me.Years earlier,I had Kyser's 1946 recording of "Slowly" which I had heard back in 1958 as a seven year old when my panrents bought a Philco radio and phonograph combination for $10 from some neighbors.Kyser was leading a good band.I once owned a Brunswick 78 of his "Shortnin' Bread";now that was a corny band. That record would have made a good Frisbee.

There are several Columbia-licensed Kyser Cds on Collectables and
Collectors Choice that are full of alternate takes - no one has done
take-by-take study of his output as discographers have done with Goodman
and Ellington! You just have to be familiar with the 78s to catch the
differences.
