In the late fifties, the late Jackie Wilson recorded a couple of sides,"Night" which was based on "My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice" by Saint-Seans and "Alone At Last" based on the first movement of Tschaikowsky's Piano Concerto No.1.Some years later,an all girl group from the sixties recorded a number called "The Mountain of Our Love" based on "In The Hall of the Mountain King" by Grieg. That one dated from about 1964 or thereabouts;I don't remember the name of the group.Tschaikowsky was a gold mine for melodies that were used.I had that one 78 on OKeh that was based on the first movement of his Symphony No.6 in b minor but I can't remember the name of the tune nor the artist.I first thought it was Les Brown but I don't think it was.More like Frankie Masters.I haven't seen it in years. Then there was that Coleman Hawkins recording of "How Strange":I have it on CD but I also have it on a Bluebird 78 by Van Alexander on B-10189-B.According to the label,it was
based on a work by one B.A.Prozorovsky called "Kak Stranno" and was featured in an MGM movie called "Idiot's Delight".In the RCA/Reader's Digest set,"The Great Band Era",there is a 1941 recording of "The Things I Love" by Jan Savitt:it was based on a Tschaikowsky piece.Brown's recording of "Everybody's Making Money but Tschaikowsky" was timely:as I said, many of his melodies were used, especially during the ASCAP war against radio in the early forties.

Yablokoff, in Memoirs of the Yiddish Stage, claimed that the
melody to "Nature Boy" was plagiarized from his song
"Shvayg, Mayn Harts" ("Hush, My Heart"), which he wrote for
his play Papirosn (1935).  Ahbez protested his
innocence, claiming to have “heard the tune in the mist of
the California mountains,” but later agreed to pay
 Yablokoff in an out-of-court settlement.
