[78-L] Glenn Miller - why so late on the label?

The proof that Miller was a good trombonist is the fact that he was on so
many records with top musicians, as well as part of radio orchestras.
Competition was fierce for those positions, as fierce as such jobs were as
late as the 1960s. He was doing very well between his playing and arranging.
Even Bill Finegan once stated that he was better than a lot of people
realized at the time. Look at it this way: when he had his own orchestra,
he continued to play. If he didn't think he himself was good enough, he
would have hired another guy, such was the way he thought.
