That was probably the original intent, but since Hollywood PBS/PCS matrices do exhibit the oval-VE (see previously-noted example Victor 36205), that intent surely broke down at some point. I don't yet know when the 'S' system went into use in Hollywood; we should find out when the EDVR gets to 1932 in its progress through the Victor ledgers. Two years yet to go.

For that matter, the diamond-VE is used for both BRC and BS[HQ] (to use 10-inch 78s as an example), so that theory is blown even farther out of the water. I know of no visual way to discern those two systems.
