PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
On May 15, the Education and Training Committee hosts "Discovery Access
Methods for Sound Recording Collections." This day-long workshop brings
together professionals from a variety of backgrounds to discuss how audio
resources can be found -- and made findable -- in libraries, archives,
digital collections, and discographies.

Once again, ARSC is offering its pre-conference workshop in a live-streaming
online version for those who are unable to attend the conference in person.
An archived version will be made available to all workshop registrants for a
limited time. The workshop is approved for five Archival Recertification
Credits through the Academy of Certified Archivists.

A separate registration fee applies for the workshop. Pre-registration is
required. For more information, see:

or contact Karen Fishman, kfishman at loc.gov, 202-707-5856, or Aaron Bittel,

NEWCOMER ORIENTATION and MENTORING PROGRAM
If this is your first time attending an ARSC conference -- welcome! To
introduce you to the conference and other members, we encourage you to
participate in the Mentoring Program. During the Newcomers Orientation,
first-time attendees will be paired with Mentors, typically long-time ARSC
members. Mentors will answer your questions about ARSC and the conference,
and introduce you to others with similar interests and goals.

Veteran ARSC members who plan to attend the conference are urged to become a
Mentor and participate in this rewarding program.

MILLER NICHOLS LIBRARY: RECEPTION and TOUR
The Miller Nichols Library, on the UMKC campus, is hosting a reception for
conference attendees on Thursday evening, May 16. Tours of the Marr Sound
Archives, Special Collections, and the Music/Media Library will be offered.
The library's robotic retrieval system will be on display. The Miller
Nichols Library is a short walk from the conference hotel.

AWARDS BANQUET
The conference will conclude on Saturday evening, May 18, with the annual
Awards Banquet in the hotel's Seville Ballroom. Winners of the 2012 and 2013
ARSC Awards will be honored.
