"Danny Boy" is a lyric by Fred Weatherly that he applied to an old Irish melody his sister alerted him to, sometime in the 1890s, I think. It's more a lament than a Christmas lyric; der Bingle didn't thinkle it out too much. I say it's not suitable to carolling, as much as I like it on its own. PC

Subject: [78-L] Danny Boy - a Christmas tune? Really?
The first Crosby Christmas album on Decca A 403 coupled the initial issue of I'll Be Home For Christmas with Danny Boy (18570).
This has always struck me as odd. If ol' Dan is a Christmas tune, my education is lacking something. Anybody know what the story is here or should I start programming Danny Boy with our neighborhood caroling group?
