[78-L] My Man From Caroline

Sussman reported back quickly that he did not have any information on how the song was written or what "Caroline" referred to. Donaldson was a typical Brooklyn-born New York, Tin Pan Alley guy, so I doubt he had any first-hand knowledge (as George Gershwin had when researching "Porgy and Bess") of ways and dialects of the South. It's my belief he just tried copying existing styles and that "Caroline" has no more significance than any other passing reference to the general area of North and South Carolina.
