The W prefixes continued through the Petrillo Ban though it may have more likely referred to a Warehouse. The first legitimate sides after the ban were made at Muzak/Associated and carry an M prefix. Oberstein bought Reeves and there are a handful of R matrices cut before he renamed it Transcriptions, Inc. and began using the T prefix in February or March of '44. The Kassel sides were probably done in Chicago. When Majestic took over it used the T prefix regardless of studio.

Subject: [78-L] Hit and Majestic matrix prefixes
Sutton-Nauck, ARLC p.75, says that Obie's Elite label used the World studios for W-prefixed masters.Björn Englund, in remarks on Obie's recordings during the ban, to appear in the next Names & Numbers mag.,says:"In January 1944 Oberstein bought the Reeves studios in New York...had an R matrix series"(maybe from Billboard, which has a lot on Obie?).But where did Majestic make its recordings? han enderman===>>> Are you sure about World and Reeves? Don Gabor used Reeves at Continental, don't know about Oberstein. And World was owned by Decca from some time in early 1943.dlOn 12/4/2012 6:44 PM, Han Enderman wrote:> The matrix prefixes in the main mx series (100 series) of the> Hit label are W, M, R and T.> When the series was continued on Majestic, from 1945 on,> the T prefix was retained.> See the lists in Ty's ODP.> Only once NC was used (Art Kassel, Hit 7110/11).> W = World studios; R = Reeves studios.> What is the meaning of M, T, and NC ?>_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l
