[78-L] 1-mil stylus

I may be opening a can of worms here but...

Reading Dave's post (and the bit about a 1-mil being useful for Eastern European & Soviet LPs) brought a whimsical thought to the forefront... that of a 'communal stylus'. If one member had a run of applicable discs to transfer, the need would be put forth and the current holder of the communal stylus would ship same (packed VERY carefully, of course... no eSpew packing here, no-sir-ee) to the needy party, who would then hold it until another member uncovered a stash of Bulgarian Folk LPs from the early 1960s that just HAVE to be transferred to digital (or archive tape), etc etc etc.

It's a humorous thought, yes, but if a group of collectors were in CLOSE proximity (same city or such), that MIGHT be an idea. WOuldn't work for those of us out here in Injun Country...

Cheers!

Brad (who has to go wait in line... People's Democratic Republic Store for Reproducing of Sound Mechanical Devices is supposed to be getting a shipment of belts for 8-track players!)

Fortunately I'm still using original Shure styli (and guarding them with my
wife's life)..the after-market versions are crap.

But I ain't shelling out no $125 for something I might use once every three
months. I'll have to put the Stanton under a microscope and see if the tip is
ferkakht or just grungy..no idea why it would just "go". (This stylus is also
useful on mono Soviet lps.)
