Was there not a popular whistler by the name of Alex (or perhaps Alec)
Templeton who recorded  many 78's back in the forties?

More recently there was a whistler named Ron McCroby. 4 albums on Concord
Jazz,
numerous TV appearances, but his day job was in advertising. I hadn't
realized
that he'd died in 2002.
