Hi, Ron,
Judging from the hits I got from Google Books, David Southwood seems to 
have been involved both in domestic radio production, world broadcasts 
and reports from New York for the BBC in the war years. He might even 
have been head of Outside Broadcasting in later years.
In order to get more information from those links you'll have to 
purchase the books through Google e-books.

Or try some more people at the BBC. There are guys well over 80 still 
working for the company: Brian Matthew, Desmond Carrington (the latter 
with the BBC since just after the war) and sports commentator Murray 
Walker, who joined BBC in 1949 and even has written about Southwood in 
his self-biography.
