Joe,
When i acquire a new record, I assign it a new number in sequence from
the last one. So if the new number assigned is 4334, that's where it
will be. I started off with different coloured spines for each hundred
78s, and then marked each edge with a white marker: the first at the
top, and gradually working down for each further ten, which makes it
fairly simple to find a particular record.

My database include:
1. Artist's first name
2. Artist's last name
3. Type of group (e.g. Orchestra, Trio etc)
4. Pseudonym (if any)
5. Song title
6 Catalogue number
7. Vocalist's name
8. Unusual features (e.g. a non-standard take, or previously unissued)
9. Filters for certain artists and genres
