[78-L] Ken Curtis with Dorsey??

Rumors of Sinatra leaving TD were rife by the end of '41 and Frankie made his first solo discs a couple of months later.
There were eight sides cut at the "Little gift of Roses" session so if there were fireworks during the first four hour block there would have been time to send out for a journeyman radio singer to fill in for a one-shot appearance.

Curtis was Shep Fields' regular vocalist beginning in December, 1941, though Rust lists him as Ken Carter for some reason. Curtis received some nice reviews in the trades but joined the Army at the end of June, 1942. David

Why would TD hire another crooner with Sinatra already on the payroll? Any clues from history?Sent from my iPodOn Jul 8, 2012, at 6:52 PM, David Weiner wrote:Supposedly Frankie left the session early due to an argument with TD.Dave WeinerOn 7/8/12 7:20 PM, "David Lennick" wrote:For a while in 1941, according to this:http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0193411/bioAnd yes he did one session, September 26/41, which produced "Love Sends aLittle Gift of Roses".And here he is with Shep Fields (I'm not finding him listed on anyrecords though, only Ken Carter):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzVj6crkpl4dlOn 7/8/2012 7:10 PM, Taylor Bowie wrote:Yo, all,I'm having a friendly on-line chat with someone who maintains that KenCurtis was with the Dorsey band around the time that Sinatra left andDickHaymes joined...and that he recorded a couple of sides with the band aswell.I find this hard to believe...anyone have any info? I read the TDorsey bioa year or so ago and don't remember any mention of Ken Curtis (who didsingand record with Shep Field's New Music band). Thanks fromTaylor_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l
