Why would TD hire another crooner with Sinatra already on the payroll? Any clues from history?

Supposedly Frankie left the session early due to an argument with TD.

And yes he did one session, September 26/41, which produced "Love Sends a
Little Gift of Roses".
And here he is with Shep Fields (I'm not finding him listed on any
records
though, only Ken Carter):

Yo, all,

I'm having a friendly on-line chat with someone who maintains that Ken
Curtis was with the Dorsey band around the time that Sinatra left and
Dick
Haymes joined...and that he recorded a couple of sides with the band as
well.

I find this hard to believe...anyone have any info? I read the T
Dorsey bio
a year or so ago and don't remember any mention of Ken Curtis (who did
sing
and record with Shep Field's New Music band).

Thanks from

Taylor
