absolutely amazing application of scanning and digital analysis. 


back in 1980, i had a conversation with an advanced collector about some tin foil recordings in his collection ca. 1880's. at that time these foil strips had never been heard in modern times, as metal styli would destroy the fragile foil indentations. we theorized that eventually laser scanning technology would make audio salvage possible in such cases. looks like "eventually" has arrived.
