Subject: Stan and Steve Hester
Hi Taylor,
Would you do me the kindness of posting this on 78-L for others to read.
Many thanks!!
Saw the postings regarding postings by Steve Hester and his reference to
IAJRC. As President of IAJRC, I can assure you we do not and have never
“banned” anybody! There is nothing in our By-Laws that would permit that.
More important, no IAJRC member past or present that I know of would be
inclined to persue an action like that in private. Like any organization, we
have had members who are vociferous about their disagreements. While we may
think such behavior distracts from our best serving our Membership, we fully
grant that it’s a member’s privilege to speak out and disagree! Such a
person can make phone calls; send faxes, e-mails, and letters; take out paid
advertising, stand up and give voice to disagreements at our General
Membership Meeting at our Annual Convention, and even run for office. We let
our By-Laws and Robert’s Rules of Order govern contentiousness.
I have personally never seen or met either Stan or Steve at an IAJRC event
over the past two decades, and until last summer, was unaware of any of
these claims being made by one or both. As for their record collections,
files, books, etc., why would we have any interest in their being destroyed?
If anything, we would hope they would be sold to fellow collectors or
donated. IAJRC is in the process of dissolving its own substantial library,
so we would have no interest in acquiring still more material!
Steve’s irrational postings have been going on since last year. What you
have seen is apparently a new flurry. We have been told that both Stan and
his son, Steve, have medical issues. As such, they are for his family and
professionals to deal with. We may all want to be compassionate towards
them, but compassion does not constitute professional care.
