Dear List Mates and Friends,

The link immediately below will take you to a "Kickstarter" project for which the goal is to produce a 2-CD set of the 2008 concert held to celebrate the 95th birthday of saxophonist Franz Jackson.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1749558063/franz-jackson-milestone-a-historic-cd-project?ref=recently_launched

Franz Jackson took part in at least 61 recording sessions between 1933 and 2005, the majority of them before 1950, during the 78 era. He was listed at these sessions as playing, variously, clarinet, tenor sax, alto sax, soprano sax, flute, reeds and saxes.

He recorded at these sessions with bands led by Reuben "River" Reeves, Laura Rucker, Fletcher Henderson, Earl Hines, Roy Eldridge, Georgie Auld, Dud Bascomb, Maxine Johnson, and under his own leadership, all of these before 1950.

The short video at the Kickstarter site and the accompanying text explains the process simply and clearly. Everyone who makes a pledge of support helps to move the project forward and if the goal is reached the CD will be produced and pledge premiums will be awarded. If the project is not fully funded by the deadline the pledges are not collected.

This is a worthwhile effort to memorialize a historic jazz artist who made many many 78s during his long and successful career, by producing a CD of his final concert that was an event to remember and included plenty of top jazz artists of today.

Thank you for considering supporting this project.
