I don't find much about it in the Boston newspapers (I just glanced 
quickly-- maybe there's something, but it didn't come right up).  First 
thing I find is a 1950 ad for a phonograph record called "Children's 
Songs by J. Austin Thompson"--  Rufus Goofus is one of the songs.
