[78-L] Charlie Barnet title I can't think of

Sammy had a sense of humor-give the Varsity of "Oh Helen" or the post-war "I used to work in Chicago" a spin. I'm certain that the Victor brass would have gotten his OK before releasing something that might offend one of their most consistent money makers. In June of 1940 Oberstein offered Kaye what was then reported by Variety as one of the most lucrative contracts in the business, which Victor matched when US Records went into receivership.

The hell he did. He was so fed up with Victor for releasing it that he went over to Varsity..note the 5 month gap in his Victor sessions between May and October of 1940. There are at least 8 sides done for Obie (not in Rust) because they appeared in a Philharmonic album titled "Dusty Old Manuscripts" whose cover is a perfect imitation of Steinweiss's work.dlOn 3/18/2012 9:40 PM, Jeff Sultanof wrote:> Sammy laughed all the way to the bank!>> Jeff Sultanof>> On Sun, Mar 18, 2012 at 9:32 PM, Randy Watts wrote:>>> Thanks much, Andrea.
