Finally someone else has had the guts
to expose this shyster.
Basically Mawhinney got what he got by hoarding promos and stuff that
he bought wholesale. Of course he has a massive collection. He kept
at least 1 of everything that ever came in. Unlike the rest of us, I
doubt that he ever paid
full retail for any of them. Value by volume simply
The guy was (and still is) pretty much despised around Pittsburgh as
being a legend in his own mind.

I have never met or heard of Mr. Mawhinney but I can't understand the vitriol being directed at him. Maybe there's more to the story than what has been posted but from what I've read, if he was a dealer and was able to purchase records at wholesale, why wouldn't he? Doesn't any car dealer purchase his own car at wholesale? I know of a number of broadcasters who have collections made up of promo discs which manufacturers have sent to them - I have many which these broadcasters have passed on to me, does that make me a shyster? While the drama of the video got a bit maudlin at times, I pity Mr. Mawhinney and his situation and can appreciate the predicament he's in because I know that even my comparatively modest collection is going to be a burden on my heirs when I move on. It's hard to tell from cleverly determined video angles how large this collection is but it looks to me like an estimate of 1 million is very conservative.
