[78-L] Playing Black Amberols on an Amberola

Hey Don - The stylus fits & I was able to play the cylinder once with my
Amberola 30 - no problem. It was when I pulled it off that I noticed some
small black smudges on my hand. It looked like dust, but I had just cleaned
the cylinder so I knew it wasn't.
The Black cylinders are softer than the Blue so I imagine had I continued to
play it, eventually the stylus would have worn out the grooves (like playing
a 78 with a dull needle??). I think the older reproducers had less weight on
them as well which probably made a difference.

For Craig - Yes, doing some looking & I see most of them as 2000 series Blue
Amberols as well. Just like Don, I thought the Blue and Black were basically
the same as they were both 4 mins.
At least now I know I can continue looking for Blue ones! They are such
great songs I can see how they would have stayed in the catalog.

Why is that? Wasn't the same doorknob stylus used for all Amberolls,
regardless of the compound? 4 minute is 4 minute, black or blue, right?
