Not for most changers.  Even if you want to play the 45s manually it was
often impossible to fit these adapters over the automatic changer's
spindle.  If you did want to play the 45s automatically you needed
either the inserts in each record or the special 45 spindle available
for most -- but not all -- changers.  I never had a 3-speed changer, but
most people in the 50s did.
