[78-L] Is there a common, or uncommon cure for flakey Edison discs?

Purchased an Ernest Stoneman Edison, 51788 L, "Bad Companions," and "When
the Work's All Done This Fall,"
with flakes on the rim, plus a severe gouge about a half inch into the
music on one side. Any simple
repairs to the flaking, or ways to fill the gouge?
