[78-L] quality control problems - Poor Vinyl

Another interesting thing is that whenever a format seems to be close
to perfection, there's another one replacing it, one with major
disadvantages.
When cylinders went from single-copy to duplication and abandoned wax
for more durable materials, in came the noisy shellac disc.
When 78's finally reached hi fidelity standard, could be cut wide and
loud and were pressed on vinyl - in came the microgroove 45 rpm with
inferior dynamics.
When the vinyl album had reached the digital era and the laser
turntable was about to be developed, in came the artificial sounds of
the early CD.
When CD producers finally perfected mastering techniques and were able
to offer superb blueray discs, in came the low-fi mp3.
Why did we quit blue amberol in the first place?

I've not had any quality problems with 78s from the mid 50s going
back. However, I have seen more defects in US 78s that were pressed
at the end of the 78 era. I've had a few pressed in 1958 that are
off
center and a few with mis-aligned labels.

I wonder if as 78 production began to dwindle, QC became lax as a
result because no one really cared about the 78 by then
